Turkey EV Charging Guide 2026: ZES, Trugo, Eşarj & Tesla
Planning a road trip in Turkey with an electric vehicle? First of all, don’t worry. Turkey has rapidly developed its charging infrastructure in recent years. In fact, you can find high-speed DC chargers even in the most remote Anatolian cities. However, there are too many operators, and this can be confusing for tourists. Which app should you download? Do you really need a physical RFID card? In this comprehensive guide, we explain the best charging networks (ZES, Trugo, Eşarj, Tesla) and payment methods for international travelers.
1. ZES (Zorlu Energy Solutions)
Undoubtedly, ZES is the most extensive charging network in Turkey. If you are planning to go outside big cities like Istanbul or Izmir, you must download the ZES app. They have stations in all 81 provinces.
- Pros: Excellent coverage, reliable AC and DC units.
- Payment: You save your credit card (Mastercard/Visa) in the app.
- Important Note: ZES applies a “Provision/Block” fee (approx. 1500-2000 TL) before starting the charge. However, they refund the remaining amount immediately after the session ends.
2. Trugo (Official Togg Network)
Trugo is the brand of Turkey’s national car, Togg. Moreover, thanks to their partnership with Shell, you can find Trugo chargers at many Shell gas stations on highways. Therefore, it is a perfect option for high-speed charging (180 kW+).
- Compatibility: It works with all CCS2 vehicles (Tesla, Porsche, BMW, etc.).
- How to use: Download the “Trugo” or “Trumore” app. scan the QR code and start charging.
3. Tesla Supercharger
Fortunately, Tesla has opened its Supercharger network in Turkey to Non-Tesla vehicles as well. So, even if you drive a rented Togg or a Peugeot, you can use selected Superchargers.
- No Card Needed: Tesla does not use physical cards. Simply download the Tesla App, select “Charge Your Non-Tesla,” and plug in.
- Warning: Be careful about “Idle Fees.” Move your car immediately after charging finishes.
4. Eşarj (Enerjisa)
If speed is your priority, Eşarj is the right choice. They operate Turkey’s fastest charging stations (up to 360 kW). Usually, you can find them in shopping malls and popular stopover points.
FAQ: What Tourists Need to Know
Do I need a physical RFID card?
Generally, no. Almost all operators (ZES, Trugo, Eşarj) allow you to start charging via their mobile apps by scanning a QR code. However, having a card is a good backup if your phone has no internet connection in underground parking lots.
Can I pay with cash?
No. Charging stations in Turkey do not accept cash. You must use a credit card linked to the mobile app.
Do foreign roaming apps (Shell Recharge, Plugsurfing) work?
In some cases, yes. For example, the Shell Recharge app works at Trugo stations. However, local apps (ZES, Eşarj) usually offer cheaper rates than international roaming apps. Therefore, we recommend downloading local apps.
Which adapter do I need?
Turkey uses the European standard CCS2 for DC charging and Type 2 for AC charging. If your car is imported from the US (CCS1), you will need an adapter.
